The other day I had a “Let them eat cake” moment but it was just with myself and it was more of a “Let yourself eat toast” moment. I realized that the way I view food health-wise is totally weird. I ate cake for lunch two days last week, but I think toast is too bad for me to consume ever in my life.
I don’t know if this is a thing or a just Victoria thing, but I do this with all sorts of food. I think ice cream is basically healthy cause there’s calcium involved and I used to eat it all the time as a kid, but I won’t put cheese on anything cause it’s not good for me. I won’t drink juice cause it’s all sugar but I’ve thoroughly convinced myself that diet coke is healthy because it’s zero calories and how could that be bad for you? I won’t eat ham because I think turkey is better for you, but I’ll chase that turkey with a handful of skittles. I blame all the articles I’ve read about what you should be eating coupled with my general lack of self-control.
Now let me be clear that this is not a health food article. I’m not trying to tell you that the way we view food is unhealthy or that we should look at it differently, even though that is all probably true. The only conclusion I think we can rationally come to with nutrition is probably don’t eat processed food and you need some moderation but besides that we really don’t have a clue what’s going on. Every few months someone decides that all milk is bad for you or that just kidding about the low fat thing that’s actually destroying your body sorry about that.
So maybe this is a health food article and the only advice I have for you is don’t check the calorie content of your yogurt cause you will spill it all over yourself at work and that’s a promise.
